Volakas Marble

White Marble with Grey and Warmer Veins

Volakas Marble from Greece has a white background crossed by grey veins, sometimes with warmer brown tones. The markings introduce movement to the pale ground, with differences in their direction, spacing and prominence from one selection to another.

Some faces have a clear directional flow; others are less regular. Choosing Volakas therefore involves more than choosing white marble: the way its veins move can influence the character of the finished surface.

Following the Vein Movement

Where the veins follow a clear direction, rotating the face changes their relationship to the object or room. On a rectangular panel, the movement might follow its length or cut across it; neither arrangement is automatically preferable. The useful choice is whether the stone should reinforce the shape or create a contrast within it.

For several faces seen together, consider the overall rhythm before concentrating on a single vein at a join. A planned change of direction can work as a deliberate transition, while an accidental change may interrupt the intended flow. Natural variation means exact continuity is not assured.

Furniture Surfaces and Larger Areas

On a Furniture Top

The outline of a top determines which part of the pattern remains visible. On a compact piece, a single strong vein can carry the design; on a longer top, the intervals between markings can be just as important. Consider the final shape and visible edges when choosing the area of stone.

Across a Wall or Floor

At room scale, repeated pale areas and darker veins contribute to the whole composition. The distance from which the surface is usually seen changes which details stand out. If a more restrained pale-vein character is the priority, compare Kyknos White Marble alongside the Volakas selection.

Finish and Care for the Chosen Use

Sheen offers Volakas polished and honed. Polish gives a reflective sheen; honing provides a softer surface appearance. Choose between them according to the effect you want and the intended contact with the stone. Other finishes can be requested subject to the material and application; floors and wet settings also need suitability assessed for their conditions.

For daily care, clear away grit, use a neutral natural-stone cleaner and blot spills promptly. Protect table surfaces from acidic drinks and abrasive objects. Acid can leave an etched, dull patch on marble, including honed marble; sealing does not prevent that reaction. Ask for care appropriate to any treatment applied to the selected stone.
