Red Travertine
Red Colour and Natural Texture
Red Travertine from Iran combines red tones with natural markings and surface pores. Its colour can vary in depth, with warmer brown or yellow-toned markings occurring within the red. This variation gives the stone a different character from an evenly coloured surface.

Filled or Unfilled Travertine
Filled
Filling closes the stone's visible voids, giving a more continuous surface. For a top that will be wiped regularly, this reduces the open recesses where crumbs or residue can collect. The natural markings remain, and filling does not make the surface stain-proof.
Unfilled
Unfilled Red Travertine retains its natural open texture. Those recesses become part of the appearance, particularly where light reveals the surface relief. They also need attention during cleaning, so consider how accessible the surface will be and what it will come into contact with.
Sheen offers Red Travertine filled or unfilled. Filling addresses the voids; sealing is a separate treatment considered for the stone and its use.
Polished and Honed Are Finish Choices
Polished and honed finishes are both offered. Decide on the desired sheen separately from whether the pores should remain open or be filled.
| Finish | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Polished | A reflective sheen adds highlights to the red colour and markings. It is a choice about the surface appearance, not a substitute for specifying filling. |
| Honed | A softer sheen gives the face a less glossy appearance. A honed surface should not be assumed to be unfilled; the fill condition still needs to be chosen. |
The combination needs to suit the stone and application. Other finishes can be requested, with their suitability assessed for the proposed use.
Colour and Pattern Across the Intended Surface
On a furniture surface, red can act as a concentrated colour accent. Across a wall, its distribution becomes part of the larger composition: areas with stronger colour or markings can draw attention even when the overall tone is similar.
The direction in which travertine is cut can reveal its layers as bands or show a less directional pattern. Judge the actual pattern you want to use rather than expecting every Red Travertine face to have the same arrangement.
For a different colour direction with travertine's natural character, compare Travertine Beige Stone. A proposed floor or wet location also needs the texture, finish and installation assessed for its conditions; open pores alone do not establish slip resistance.
Caring for a Textured Stone
Clear loose dust and debris before wiping, especially around open pores. Use a neutral natural-stone cleaner and remove cleaning residue rather than leaving it to collect in recesses. Blot spills promptly and use protection beneath drinks or objects on a top.
Acidic liquids can etch travertine and change its surface. Filling and sealing do not prevent that reaction. Keep acid-based and abrasive cleaners away from the stone, and use care instructions appropriate to its fill condition, finish and any sealing treatment.
